2nd's Saturday

Finally pushed through with our (super late) Christmas dinner with our college barkada. We'd like to see each other more often but everyone's so busy with work or (in our case) family. Actually, not everyone could make it so we still have to schedule a part 2. Vins and I were the first ones to get married in the group and the only ones with kids so far. Right now, 1 has also gotten married and 2 are engaged! So hopefully they'll have babies soon enough so Miley and Sabe will have playmates already! =)

We had dinner in 2nd's then drinks after at Texas Roadhouse since Agave was full. Chika lang, Rhian Ramos was also in 2nds while we were having dinner. Then when we bumped into KC Montero in the elevator going down to Agave. Then while walking to Texas Roadhouse, we saw Vicky Belo and Hayden Kho. Star-studded ang gabi!

I was making kulit Vins to take my outfit photo using the gorgeous furniture at Dimensione as backdrop, pero sa stairs na lang daw! KJ forever!
finally dropped by the Great Lifestyle Sale before dinner
was tempted to buy shoes, but was talked out of it by Vins as usual (hindi mo nanaman yan gagamitin!)
Cornflake Buffalo Pops
this was my order, Summer Grilled Pork Chop. really good!
Shoreside Thai Red Curry
Red Horse Fish and Chips
Beef Rib Adobo
Kung Hei Fat Choi! In the barkada, only me and Vins aren't Chinese! No wonder kami ang nagkatuluyan! =)
I used to be able to drink a LOT before. But since I've been pregnant and breastfeeding for basically the last 2 years, I'm not used to it na. I just had 2 cocktails and then I felt really bad already haha!
my outfit - animal print vest: Supersale Bazaar, black top & shorts: random from tiangge, blue bag & black flats: Greenhills. I love bargain buys!

My babies love Baby Einstein

When I was still pregnant with Miley, I wanted to implement the no TV rule from reading different articles about it. Like they say kids under 2 years old should not watch ANY TV since the first 2 years of life are considered a critical time for brain development. That TV can get in the way of interacting with others, exploring and playing. I figured I’d prefer for her to read books or to play with toys.

But who am I kidding? I’m a certified TV-holic myself. I watch every reality show and TV series there is (name it, I watch it!), I’m a certified Kapamilya, and just basically keep up with any showbiz related news out there. How can I apply that rule in a house that has a TV in every room?

So it’s no surprise that my kids love watching TV too! It started with commercials. When Miley was a baby, she’d stop whatever she was doing, whip her head towards the TV and stay still when her favorite commercials would play (like Surf, Tide, Colgate, and any shampoo brand). Her latest favorite was the Cornetto Disc ice cream (where they play the song Hey Daydreamer). We even watch it on Youtube! Now, even Sabre is the same way! They love watching Nickolodeon (Dora, Hi-5, Team Umizoomi, Yo Gabba Gabba) Disney (Upin & Ipin, Mr. Bean), and Baby TV!

But their favorite is the Baby Einstein videos! When Miley would stay with my in-laws, her lolo would always download all kinds of videos for her to watch. Whenever I’d check on her, I’d find her sitting quietly in her lolo’s lap, watching the computer screen intently with full concentration. When my in-laws went to the States for vacation, I decided to randomly copy whatever videos I could find on their computer and good thing I was able to copy the Baby Einstein ones.

Officially hooked on Group Buying Sites!

I've actually just recently joined the bandwagon and started signing up to a number of group buying sites like MetroDeal, DealGrocer, Groupon and so on. It started when I saw this ad in Facebook for a 3D/2N trip to Palawan. I clicked on the link (I didn't buy the trip btw) and discovered so much more offers and discounts! Now this is the start of my new addiction!

I was like a maniac last night, clicking on so many packages for trips, beauty, food, fashion (I think I had about 20 tabs opened) and comparing which was the best deal. I was getting a headache already trying to control myself from buying on a whim (seeing the time left to buy was giving me panic attacks!).

After careful consideration, I finally bought my first ever deal from CashCashPinoy! I was really looking for a photobooth for Sabe's 1st birthday party this April. After checking other deals, CashCashPinoy offered the best one at P3500 for 3 hours! It was so easy buying the voucher, I just hope I don't encounter any problems during redemption. I'll be sure to make a review after. =)

Just now, I also bought another voucher for 1 Toddler Class at Toddlers Unlimited. In my post here, I was debating whether or not to enroll Miley in playschool. So when I saw this deal, it was just perfect since it was just for 1 class so we can see if Miley will like it or not. At least there's no pressure unlike if we already enroll her for a full course. We're planning to try this one next week so I'll also be sure to write about our experience there.

Now, I'm itching to buy this deal for a hair makeover - only P1,500 instead of 3,200 for expert hair services from Creations Salon in G5 including haircut, hair color and treatment! I also saw this other deal for just P750 at another site but the salon was somewhere in Pioneer, Mandaluyong. I'm thinking I should just get the more expensive one since the salon is more conveniently located to me and the salon looks nicer haha. I still have today to decide so we'll see. Anyway, I just need to practice self-control before I end up maxing out my credit card on so many irresistible deals! =)

Update: I did end up buying the hair makeover deal! Haha!

Party Planning Mode ON! A look back at Miley's 1st birthday party

Okay... I'm now in full party planning mode for Sabe's 1st birthday party - at just 3 months to go!!! Actually, there was a long debate on whether we should even throw Sabe a party or not. With Miley, there was no question, we went all out with the preparations! I think I was already planning the party before I gave birth to her haha! But seriously, 6 months before Miley’s party, I had already booked the venue, finalized the theme and was working on booking the other suppliers. Needless to say, we had more disposable income then. But now, with 2 kids, a new house, plus the fact that I’m no longer working… well let’s just say baka McDonald’s na lang ang party ni Sabe (joke!).

I was surprised that it was Vins who insisted we push through with Sabe’s party. According to him, kawawa naman si Sabe when he grows up and sees pictures of his Ate Miley’s extravagant celebration. Well, who am I to resist plannning another party? I LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about it! I just asked for the budget and now I’m ready to go!

Now, I’m looking back at what we did for Miley’s 1st birthday and deciding which suppliers to get again, which items to keep or do without, and how to basically throw a fabulous party at the same level but with a much lower budget (good luck to me!). Here’s a peek at what we did for Miley’s CANDY themed party last year and sort of a supplier’s rating as well:

Venue: NORTH FORBES PARK PAVILION

This is where we also had Miley’s baptism (although on the 2nd floor), so I already knew the ins and outs of the place. Aside from it being affordable, I love how spacious the pavilion was.

Decors: POLKADOTS EVENTS

I super loved coordinating with Jhoanne. She replies fast to emails and made sure everything was well coordinated during the event. Everyone who attended the party was amazed with how nice the venue looked.

This is what I got from her:
- Full Styro Backdrop and Welcome Rental
- 250pcs Balloon Drops & 100pcs Vines for ceiling

Caterer: WOWLU CATERING

I was looking for an affordable caterer who would still provide value for money. And that’s what I got with Wowlu at just P200 per head! Vina, my contact person, was also great to coordinate with. She always replied instantly to my emails and endless questions and requests (gift and cake table, combination colors of linens, bringing of extra drinks, etc).

This was our menu:
- ROAST BEEF
- CORDON BLUE
- LASAGNA
- BANANA-MANGO FLOAT
- SOFTDRINKS

We also had 2 lechons so she just charged an additional P500 for rental of chafing dish and labor for waiter – NOW, this was my only issue with them. They did not display and chop the lechon in the buffet set up. Instead, they brought it inside the small room in the pavilion since they said there was no more space in the buffet table. Now, we had 2 lechons and naubos agad. So my family was complaining that we don’t know if they actually served everything or if the waiters took home some of the lechon (hopefully not naman).

Foodcarts/Balloon Centerpieces: YAN-PLE

Another hassle-free transaction. I got these from Apple:
- balloon centerpieces for the tables
- Popcorn (Popperoo) - cheese & bbq
- French Fries - cheese & bbq
- Ice Cream - 3 flavors

Sayang I wasn’t even able to eat any of the food since I was so busy going around. But judging from the line, everyone enjoyed it!

Cake: SHORTCRUST BY PEACHY JUBAN

Peachy is my cousin and Miley’s ninang so of course the cake was fabulous! She also made cupcakes as well!

Candy Buffet: DIVISORIA

Bought all the candy at Divi and just arranged them on a table using our own glassware. It was a big hit among the guests!

Cupcakes: CIELIN'S CAKEHOUSE

This has become a staple in all our parties. Their chocolate cakes and cupcakes are to die for! We got banana and of course chocolate cupcakes, which we just put sprinkles and mini marshmallows on top to make it look more festive.

Host: JIGGLES THE BALLOON LADY (hosting & balloon show)

Fabulous host and entertainer! I was able to book her before her price increase so I was very happy. Since we had more adults in the party, she definitely knew how to engage everyone. By her last game, all the adults who joined were having so much fun! I got so many comments during and even after the party of how good she was. But of course, since the same people will be attending Sabe’s party, I have to look for another host who is hopefully as good as Jiggles.

Photobooth: FRAMEUP PHOTOBOOTH

I got the BASIC 3-hour package and just designed my own tarp and had it made for free (the perks of working in advertising before). Pau Marquez, the owner, gave me free 30mins since I booked around Christmas time. I loved the layout she did for the template, it was super cute (but I was the one who edited Miley's photo putting the hair ribbon and holding the lollipop). And the basic package I got didn't come with the photo standees, but she gave them to me anyways.

Kiddie Salon: KIDZ SALON

My mother-in-law was the one who got this for the party since she knows the owner.  They only had 1 stylist but I think they were able to accommodate everyone who wanted their hair painted and styled.

Prizes/Loot bags: DIVISORIA

Got so many prizes and goodies from the ever dependable Divi! I wanted sana for all the prizes to have a candy theme, but all the stuff they had were cartoon characters.

Invites: DIY

Did this using my photoshop skills and free time at the office.

Miley's outfit: SM & Carolina's

I knew I wanted Miley to feel comfortable during the party but still look like she was the celebrant. So I just bought one of those cute tutus in SM, a basic white onsie, and sewed on the neckline a ribbon I got from Carolina's. I also got her a headband but she only wore it for 10 minutes. Not bad for an entire outfit that cost less than P1000!

Photographer: RAINBOW PHOTOGRAPHY

I got their package B:
Good for 3 hour photo coverage
Unlimited digital shots in DVD as proof (JPEG files - UNEDITED)
1 Professional Photographer with
12.9 MP DSLR Nikon D90
FREE Website for Online gallery / slideshow for your friends/guests to view

On the day of the party, Mae (my contact person) texted to ask me if I was willing to add 1 more photographer and 100 edited pics with slideshow to my package at an additional cost (I’m not sure if it was P500 or P1000). I figured why not, more pictures for us! When I got the final CD, I noticed that there were only 50 edited pics and no slideshow as promised. I emailed and texted Mae several times but she never replied. I just decided to let it go since I was happy naman with the output. But I definitely won’t be getting them for Sabe’s birthday.

Now, I'm still deciding what theme to go with for Sabe's party (safari? circus? sports? airplane?). I do know for a fact that even though our budget is lower this time, it won't stop me from trying to throw the most wonderful 1st birthday party for Sabe! =)

Bohol Trip: Countryside Tour

We went on the countryside tour on our 2nd day in Bohol. We got the services of Tatsky, a highly recommended tour guide from the forums I regularly visit. The tour actually consisted of 12 spots but since we were with the 2 kids, I just asked if we could choose which areas we wanted to visit. I didn't think it would be ideal for us to go to the other spots like the hanging bridge or the Hinagdanan Cave anymore (next time na lang if ever we do go back). Also, Vins and my in-laws had already been on this tour before. What I really wanted to see were the Chocolate Hills and the tarsiers anyway.

We started the tour at about 8:30am and ended at around 3pm. By the time we were headed back to the resort, both Miley and Sabe were already crying and screaming hysterically from staying too long in the car! I guess we would have really maximized the tour if we weren't with the babies (I was actually interested in taking the seaside tour as well). But at least we have these wonderful photos to look back on and show the kids when they get older. =)

mandatory jumping shot at the man made forest taken by our tour driver Ryan =)
Vins tried taking the same pic of me with the broom but EPIC FAIL! lahat bitin! I must have jumped more than 20 times!
Loboc River Cruise
Miley was the one who picked out her outfit. I was making her wear a normal shirt but she kept saying "ayaw don't like!" When I put this halter dress on her, ok na. Hmm wala pang 2 years old yan ha! ;p And as for the Christmas balls she's holding, she actually refused to leave the boat without taking one, so we now have the pink one as a souvenir. =)
