DIY Party Giveaway Packaging

I just want to share an easy way to package your party giveaways which I did for Sabe's 1st birthday. If you remember from my supplier ratings, I bought these assorted balls in Divisoria to fit the sports theme of the party.

I knew I wanted to package them in a way that they could be seen since they looked so visually appealing on display. I didn't want to stuff them in the usual generic plastic or paper goody bag, soooo... I had an idea to use Ziploc!

I also wanted to further personalize the giveaways so I made these labels and printed them on cardboard paper...

then just fold the labels in half and staple them on both ends of the Ziploc bag...

And viola! Instant party giveaway that is perfectly easy to assemble and completely customized for your party.

Health Tips for Busy Moms

Reposting this article I read recently since it is so TRUE and very helpful for all mothers out there. I myself am guilty of most of these things below and I need to constantly remind myself that while being a mom is the most important thing, I need to take care of myself too. So take the time to read through each tip and hopefully be able to apply one (or all!) of them in your lives. =)

----0----

MOTHERHOOD – arguably the most challenging, stressful, fulfilling, frustrating, thankless, glorious and important job in the world! And like any other job, a mom needs to be in top shape to give the best to her work. So along with looking after the well-being of everyone else in the family, don’t forget to ensure that you are healthy and happy as well.

1. Make yourself a priority.
You’ve probably heard this repeated a lot. And yet most moms continue to keep putting themselves last on their to-do lists. Be it relaxing, eating, exercising or socialising, it’s important to make time for yourself. After all, only when you’re physically and mentally healthy can you give your best to your family.

2. Exercising tips.
Regular exercise is important, there’s no argument there. However taking the time to exercise can be difficult for a busy mom.
(i) One tip is to set a specific, achievable goal for yourself. For instance, you may decide that you want to walk for half-an-hour 4 times a week. Now you have a set goal that’s also very achievable.
(ii) Another tip is to exercise whilst doing something else. (All you multi-tasking moms will like this!)  So if you’ve taken your child for a karate class, don’t just wait in the lobby. Use this half an hour to take a power walk in the street or in a park close by.

3. Food and you.
Most moms have a less-than-ideal relationship with food and with all that effort they put into feeding their kids, they either eat too little or too much.
(i) One rule you absolutely must follow is to never finish up the food your child has left. Eating the food left over on your child’s plate is a very common phenomenon and this leads to the mom eating double and gaining unnecessary weight.
(ii) Mornings are an especially busy time with breakfast being cooked and lunch boxes being packed and often mothers end up skipping breakfast themselves. Make sure you sit down and eat a healthy breakfast; you could even pack it and carry it to work if that’s easier, but do not miss breakfast.
(iii) When it’s time to feed your child dinner at the end of a long day, it’s a good idea to finish your meal first. Trying to feed a fussy child on an empty stomach will only make you irritable and impatient. Eat first and you’ll find you’re way more patient and energetic to tackle any challenges the dining table may throw up.

4. Sleep time.
Just because you’re a mother now doesn’t mean you need less than 6-8 hours of sleep every night. Prioritise and cut out some activities if you must, just do whatever it takes to get the required amount of sleep.

5. Moms and stress.
Stress is inevitable, but there are ways you can minimise it.
(i) One tip is to keep expectations reasonable. Your child comes with his or her own set of talents and strengths. Do not expect unreasonable feats from your kids.
(ii) Never compare your kids with others. It doesn’t matter if your sister-in-law’s daughter started walking 17 days before your own! Your child has qualities that she doesn’t and it’s best not to get into any comparisons.
(iii) Quit the guilt. It’s OK to make mistakes. Everybody does! Don’t waste precious moments with your child feeling guilty about what you did or didn’t do. Just do the best you can and shower your kids with love.

6. Ask for help.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. What that means is that you cannot do it solely on your own, and there’s no shame in getting help. Involve your husband, your mother, your neighbour, your nanny; nobody will think any less of you and you will be a happier, healthier woman through it all.

7. The supermom myth.
Any mom will tell you – you cannot do everything. So stop worrying about trying to bring up children, while keeping a perfect house, having a successful career, looking like a supermodel, cooking like a pro and doing everything you used to before you had your child. It’s OK to have that pile of newspapers in the corner. You’ll get to it when you can.

8. Take a break from being a mom.
Every once in a while it’s essential to take a break from kids and diapers and school admissions and homework. Call up a friend or go out and have an adult conversation. Discuss politics or fashion or indulge in a good old gossip session. You’ll feel rejuvenated and look forward to going back home to the kids.

9. Physical pampering is important.
A day at the spa or beauty salon does a lot to revive a tired mom’s spirits. You get a break, look better and it takes your mind off the stress of parenting.

10. Enjoy motherhood.
It’s a great time full of challenges and triumphs and the most important thing is to enjoy it. All moms will tell you that it goes by really fast and when you look back at this time, you should remember all the laugher and fun you had.

Sabe's 1st birthday pictorial at Picture Co.

Sharing Sabe's birthday shoot at Picture Company (you get a free photo during birthdays if you're a member). I had him dress up as a baseball player to go with the sports theme of his party.

Sabe was in such a good mood that this pictorial only lasted for about 15 minutes, but we had so many nice pictures to choose from! We also did a rocker theme (since bagay sa mohawk) with Sabe holding a guitar. But there were so many photos to choose from that if I got what I wanted, I would have ended up spending about P5k... Since we were on a budget after Sabe's party (actually, the plan was to just get the free pic but I doubt if you can really leave without buying additional files) I just bought this photo below for P890 since his smile was just too precious!

Papa John's Unli Pizza

Finally got to try the Unli Pizza promo of Papa John's which they have every Tuesday. We got there before 6pm but the place was packed already. When I asked for a table, they said I was first on the waiting list which meant we would probably be seated on the next batch at around 7pm. Ok fine, we decided to just come back, but as we were about to leave, the girl called us back saying they now had a free table! Yey, just our luck! We were then led to a makeshift table with monoblock chairs, which I completely understand since they probably want to maximize the space and the crowd. It was just a little uncomfortable since you were so close to the other tables that there was barely enough space to move, plus it was so noisy! Well, what can you expect?

the place was so full!

Anyway, at exactly 6pm all the pizzas started coming out. They distribute it per flavor so you don't really have a choice. First was the pepperoni pizza. They gave us 2 slices each. Oh, and you have to finish the entire pizza including the crust for them to give you another slice of the next flavor.

Pepperoni
Hawaiian
Beef and Onion
Garden Special

I was able to eat 6 slices and Vins ate 10! After, we were so full that we swore we wouldn't be able to eat pizza for at least a month (but now, I actually want to eat pizza again just looking at the photos ;p)!

last slice! you can do it!
my mom & sister cannot eat another bite!

Anyway, I believe this promo is running until July 24. So if you're feeling up to it, head over to Papa John's tomorrow and stuff yourself full. Just make sure to get there early (and hungry). ;p

Mother's Day pampering

So how did I celebrate Mother's Day? By having a diamond peel with my mom and sister at Slimmers World in Pasay Road. My mom had GCs so it was nice to have an all girls bonding and pampering session for an afternoon.

in the Face and Skin clinic at Slimmers World

Again, happy Mother's Day to all the mommies out there especially to my mom! Thank you for everything and I love you! =)

Sabe’s All-Star 1st birthday party: Supplier Ratings (part 3)

Here's the last part of my supplier ratings which will tackle the DIY stuff I did for the party. So of course, everything will have a perfect score! ;p

Invites: DIY

I mostly emailed the invites and just printed a few at Fujifilm for the oldies who don’t have Facebook. This was the first thing I did for the party and all the the other printables were based on this design.

Cupcakes (with DIY toppers): CIELIN'S CAKEHOUSE

Another staple in our parties, these chocolate cupcakes are simply to die for! I did the toppers again just like what I did for Miley's 2nd birthday.

Food Labels: DIY

I wanted to tie in all the elements of the balls and stripes in the invite together so I made the food labels in the same template as well.

Prizes: DIVISORIA

I bought all the prizes in Anding's in Divisoria. I wanted all the prizes to be sports related so I bought bowling, golf, pingpong & basketball sets, skipping ropes, hula hoops, etc. Everything cost about P1,000. Of course, these were pricier than the usual coloring books, stickers, pencils and notepads that I could have gotten, but I really wanted them to go with the theme.

Giveaways (with DIY tags): DIVISORIA

I had 2 sets of giveaways for the adults and the kids. I was only supposed to have giveaways for the kids, but I found these assorted ball keychains at Divisoria for P55 per pack of 12!

I had also seen these stress balls before and knew I wanted to give these away as well. I was able to buy them at P120 per pack of 12 (I saw the same balls in Tickles and they were sold at 3 for P100).

I placed 3 balls per pack together with candies, chocolates and some soccer ball whistles I got in Singapore. This was how the final packaging looked like (check out how I did the giveaways HERE).

Additional Giveaways & Sweets: c/o MIL

I love how involved my mother-in-law is with the kids parties! She went ahead and packed these additional goody boxes which she filled with candies. I know it doesn't go with the sports theme, but I love them anyway. =)

She also made chocolate lollipops (which are inside those baskets) as well as bought extra goodies and snacks for everyone.

Additional Table Centerpieces: DIY

Since the package I got from Partyboosters only included 10 centerpieces, I decided to make some of my own for the other tables. I also got to use some of the extra stress balls as well. Check out how I did the centerpieces HERE.

Signages: DIY / Banners: TOY KINGDOM

I had some extra cartolina from the centerpieces I made so I decided to make some signages at the last minute just before we left for the party.

The Happy Birthday banners and buntings I found on sale at Toy Kingdom.

Overall, I was happy with how the party turned out. What was important is that we were able to celebrate the 1st birthday of our little boy with our friends and family. I also made sure that I was able to enjoy this party since I worked hard for it!

So again, happy happy birthday Sabe and we love you so much! Next party when you're 7 years old na ok? =)

Sabe’s All-Star 1st birthday party: Supplier Ratings (part 2)

Here's the continuation of my supplier ratings:

Host/Magician: BUTCH GONZALES
Rating: 4

I originally wanted to book Chayno but he already had a tentative booking. After searching online, I came across Butch Gonzales who had positive reviews. I booked him through Jacque of Partyboosters. His package consisted of the following: hosting, balloon twisting, magic show, ventri act and sound system.

Now, I would have given him a 5 but I have very high expectations coming from Miley’s party which was hosted by Jiggles the Balloon Lady. Butch spoke good English and was able to entertain the kids with his games and show. I also asked Jacque if she could tell Butch to come in a sporty attire which matched my theme and he followed through. But I just felt that Jiggles was definitely more engaging, interactive and had more stage presence. Her show was better, her games were more fun. We had way more guests then but she completely commanded the whole room. After the party, everyone was raving about her! Now, even our yaya said that she found Butch “corny” (naks ang taas ng standards! ;p) Plus, he also did a balloon show but of course compared to Jiggles, parang amateur lang tuloy siya. I wasn’t around for most of his show since I was busy entertaining but looking at the photos, it seems the kids enjoyed naman.

Photographer: WARREN CAMITAN
Rating: 5

I found Warren through N@W and decided to book him after reading many good reviews and seeing some samples of his work. I got the labor only package which comes with free 25 pcs 4R prints. Warren is a quiet guy but very organized. He was there on time and was able to shoot some family portraits of us before the party. He was also very patient with the kids because it was so hard to make them sit still and smile for the camera. I also asked him if we could go around and have a picture per table and he was able to do this in a very orderly fashion. Plus, I got the pictures exactly 2 weeks after the party just like what we agreed on, which he sent through LBC.

Photobooth:  FOTOSTYLE
Rating: 3.5

I got this from a Cash Cash Pinoy deal at just P3500 for 3 hours.

Mobile Studio Photobooth Package Inclusions
·         Personalized photo lay out
·         Unlimited prints in 4R for three hours (30mins. stop time not included)
·         High resolution soft copy in DVD CD
·         Props for the pictorial
·         With two onsite technician
·         Personalized or fabric background

However, it was a week before the party and they still hadn’t sent the photo and tarp layout. I kept emailing and texting them but no reply. Finally, they said they’ll send the layouts on Wednesday (party was on Sunday). They sent it Thursday and I didn’t like the layout they did for the photo. I just asked if I could do it myself to make it easier and faster. After that, no more hassle since they arrived on time but they used an SLR camera mounted on a tri-pod though. I would have personally preferred those booths with a screen where you could see yourself (parang photobooth talaga), but since I got this on a discount, it will do. Printed pictures were very clear and I got the CD right after the event.

Foodcarts: GASHVILLE
Rating: 5

We weren’t supposed to have foodcarts anymore but my mother-in-law insisted that she get them for Sabe. Ok, you don't have to convince me twice. =) We got ice cream, french fries and popcorn. This time, I made sure I was able to eat and they were all so yummy!

Lechon: ELARZ
Rating: 5

ElarZ lechon has always been a staple in our parties and everybody always enjoys it.

Outfits: WEAR ELSE EXACTO CUSTOMIZED APPARELS
Rating: 3 for service / 5 for output

Update: The last time I passed by their store, it was closed already. I think they moved to another location. I only have the numbers posted in their FB page and I think it's also inactive already (according to a reader who tried contacting them). Sorry to those who want to get in touch with them... :(

I knew I wanted to have matching shirts made for all of us to wear. Again, I searched online for sports jersey makers but all of them only accepted bulk orders. Luckily, my husband found this place and was able to talk them into making customized shirts for us. They usually do uniforms for teams at around P500 per set so they charged P450 per shirt since we just ordered 4 pieces. But that was fine with me since it was way cheaper than buying a generic ready made one at the mall. I tweaked a design online that I liked and they were able to copy it exactly (just like the name of their store says ;p).

this was the design I did

The only problem was that we had agreed to pick up the shirts on April 17 (party was on April 22), but they were only able to finish the shirts a day before! I think its because its summer so they had a lot of orders for team uniforms. I was already panicking and had a back-up outfit for Sabe just in case we weren't able to get the shirts on time. If not for this delay, I would have given them a perfect score since I was very happy with how the shirts came out and we got lots of compliments on our outfits.

the shirts were made of dri-fit material and I like how the names and number were sewn/embroidered and not just ironed on

Haay it was so hard to make the kids smile! Parang di naman sila masyadong enjoy sa picture na to noh? They're at this phase where they don't like strangers kasi so kinda suspicious sila kay Warren haha!

last part of my supplier ratings coming up...
