How to make your own playdough (no cook recipe)

My 5 year old daughter: Mom, I'm bored. What can I do?!

Me: Your homework!

Her: What???!!! I want something fun!

Haaay good luck to me when she gets to big school! Anyway, it's getting harder and harder to entertain her these days so I'm thankful for blogs and YouTube for giving me lots of ideas. My daughter loves mixing ingredients and as you know, I need a lot of help in the kitchen department. That's why when I saw this video she was watching, I knew instantly that we can make it since 1) it looked super easy, 2) all the ingredients were something I had on hand, and of course 3) who doesn't love playdough?

This recipe makes one (1) cup/color of dough:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1/2 tbsp. canola or vegetable oil
- 3/8 cup salt
- food coloring

Put 1/4 cup water in a bowl and add food coloring. I thought with the amount of food coloring I placed, the color was going to turn out dark, but it ended up being really light. So I guess you can add more drops to make the color brighter.

I also made another batch in green

Add 1/2 tbsp. oil to each color.

Use another bowl for your dry ingredients. Mix 1 cup flour and 3/8 cup salt.

1 cup flour
3/8 cup salt
stir

Add the mixture into the bowl with color.

Mix everything together really good.

There will definitely be clumps and chunky pieces so you can continue kneading with your hands or use a rolling pin until nice and smooth.

Ta-da! Surprisingly, the food coloring doesn't come off on your hands at all. And just store in a ziploc bag or air tight container to keep it from getting dry. Putting it in the fridge will also make it last longer.

This is a super fun and easy activity you can do with the whole family. I guess you can even add essential oils to give it different scents or maybe even glitter! And there's something satisfying about playing with something you knew you created from scratch. Hope you enjoy making this as much as we did! :)
