Gardens by the Bay: Flower Dome

I've been to Gardens by the Bay in Singapore before, but wasn't able to enter the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest attractions. Good thing my friends haven't been here as well, so this was on the top of our list during my visit last July 17.

The Flower Dome replicates the cool-dry climate of Mediterranean regions like South Africa, California and parts of Spain and Italy and is home to a collection of plants and flowers from all over the world. We went there on a Friday, which was also a holiday (Eid’l Fitr or the end of the feast of Ramadan) so there were a lot of people. Hirap tuloy mag picture! ;p

Standard admission, which also includes entry to Cloud Forest, was SG$28 (for adults). This is really not bad at all especially if you really take your time going around and spend a few hours here. Opening hours are from 9AM to 9PM daily, but we were able to enter at 6PM already since we had merienda pa. Good thing there was still plenty of sunlight left since it really is better to see the place in the daylight.

During the time we went, there was a flower display called “Flowery Fun Times” which showcases beloved nursery rhymes. I later learned that the display always changes in the Flower Field to reflect different seasons, festivals, and themes. Like the next display for September 24 - November 10, 2015 will be the "Celebration of Chrysanthemums" for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The displays were so beautiful, but seeing all the nursery rhymes come to life made me miss my babies more! I'm sure they would have loved seeing the different characters and gorgeous flowers... But that's ok, we can always come back next time for sure! :)

Mary had a little lamb
Three little kittens
so many beautiful blooms everywhere
Old McDonald had a farm
Mary, Mary quite contrary
There was an old woman who lived in a shoe

The flowers were gorgeous, but I also enjoyed the succulent garden. From the bursts of color in the flower field, the neutral palette of the cactus plants was a refreshing change of scenery for me. Even though they all kinda looked the same, they still had their own characteristics which made them so interesting as well.

Oooh, and check out this wooden dragon! I half expected to see Daenerys from Game of Thrones to suddenly appear lol! ;p

I really enjoyed the Flower Dome and I wish we had more time to roam around. We only spent an hour here since we were rushing to go to the Cloud Forest before it became super dark. But definitely a must-see when in Singapore. I cannot wait to go back and bring my kids next time. :)

Other thoughts:
- Bring a jacket! It was really cold inside especially in some areas.
- I really wish we could have gone on a weekday and definitely in the morning. Although they open the lights when it gets a bit dark, seeing the flowers in the daylight is definitely better in my opinion. And it looks better in pictures too! :)
